Re: IMR or H4831 in 300 wby?

Either IMR or H4831 are great choices in the 300 Wby. I have been using h4831sc with great results, very little spreads from 40 degrees to 110 here in Arizona.

Re: IMR or H4831 in 300 wby?

Both will work H 4831 has a great history with the 300 WBY.

With 200gr to 210gr I prefer the H1000 or RL 25 or IMR 7828.

With 150gr the IMR 4350 works good

165gr and 180gr - the H4831 or RL 22 and MRP work great

Re: IMR or H4831 in 300 wby?

There is about a 2 grain difference between IMR-4831 and H-4831. My old reliable accuracy load for a 300 wby is 82 grains H-4831 with the 180 grain bullet and 80 grains with the 200. New powders now are a little faster with it but were no 40 years ago when I developed these loads. They have worked in all 300 Wby mk 5's.

Re: IMR or H4831 in 300 wby?

Rule of thumb for my 300 WBY

150 to 165 gr bullets use IMR 4350
180 to 200 gr bullets use H4831

Dont use weak loads old 1966 speer manual No 7 gives excellent data

NOTE:

In No 7 manual they suggest 4831 powder this is ref to H4831
The IMR 4831 did not arrive to the market until 1973.

Re: IMR or H4831 in 300 wby?

I just finished developing a load for a vanguard sub moa for a buddy. Weatherby brass, cci250, 88.5grns H1000 208amax, 3.672" oal, fits one in mag one in the pipe. 2966fps avg 13fps ES, not bad for a 24" barrel. Very high pressure, right at the limits, work from 82grns. Btw, kicks like a bull with barbed wire around his nuts!
