Is IMR 7828 too fast for 300 RUM 200 gr AB?

I have an 8 lb keg of IMR 7828 which gives excellent accuracy and velocity in my 7mm RUM and 338 RUM. I just started working on a load for the 300 RUM 200 gr Accubond. I used some Retumbo yesterday and was crunching powder due to the deep seat of the bullet to function in the magazine box. I still wasn't at the velocity I'm hoping for and didn't have pressure signs.
7828 is faster by several spots on the burn rate chart than Retumbo and should be a lighter powder charge for the same velocity. I'm hoping for 3150 to just maybe 3200 fps out of my 26" barrel (I was at 3115 with the Retumbo no pressure signs). 7828 would give a nice load density with the deep seated bullet.
Might I see any sharp pressure spikes as I increased the powder charge before I get to my goal of 3150 fps? I also have some H1000 but would like to use the 7828 if I can.

I was able to get 3,200 with 95grs of Retumbo. Are you using a drop tube to get the powder in there? What is your game? I shot a Black Bear with my load 3 times 1st shot broke both shoulders 2nd through heart,3rd broke its neck. Point is lack of power wasn't the problem because Guide entire trip was telling me put one behinds its ear it will turn him off like a switch. He said he didn't care what caliber I had you shoot him in the boiler romm and it will take him a few minutes to die.

7828 will certainly work. I prefer the H1000, however. Just an observation, but you may get better results with a lighter bullet and the 7828.

This would be a long range elk load. I don't have a drop tube, I was at 97 gr Retumbo for the 3115 fps. Hodgdon lists 95.5 as max, but they tend to be on the pretty conservative side as are most companies.

You are probably right on the lighter bullet weight like 180with the 7828, but I have 150 of the 200 gr Accubonds.

I looked at the burn rate chart again and 7828 is #107, H1000 is #109 and Retumbo is #110, so I think I will be okay with the 7828. Just have to load some up and see.

Funny, I was just working on the reverse in my 300 WBY..... going to try some Retumbo and H1000 instead of the 7828 I have been shooting. I am at a little over 3000 fps with a 210 Berger, but it is a hot (pressure signs) load of 80.0 of 7828. I think 7828 would be a great powder to try in your 300 RUM. The 200 AB's are a kick ass bullet, I plan on those for my 300 as well.

....how about looking in the opposite direction? You can put 100gr of H870 under that bullet and probably have room to spare. Try some H869 which is also a spherical/ball powder and fills a case densely.

Where in relation to rifling are you seating your bullets? 97grs of Retumbo now that is a stiff load !!!! Mine were touching the lands. What rifle? H1000 didn't do the trick for me with that bullet weight.
