I need load data for .243 Win. with SGK and H4350 please

I am going to load some rounds for my son for deer season this year. I have some H4350 and Sierra Gamekings 85gr. If anyone has a safe charge weight for this combo I would really appreciate it. I looked on the Hodgdon website and they do not list the bullet and weight that I am using. Thanks in advance.

Let me give you a starting charge with 4350. I recently used IMR 4350 for my charge, but my charge is this. Lapua Brass, Sierra 107 MK, IMR 4350, and Federal Gold Match Primer. I used 39.6 grains of IMR 4350 and it was really accurate.

I would start at 37 - 38 grains for a 85 grain bullet. Check your barrel twist

There is also 100 grain bullets for better expansion and penetration.

I hope it helps

To be honest i really never check for velocity, I mainly start tweeking my charge once i start getting good to excellent groups results.

I was wondering if you were using 107gr or 85 gr bullets. From what I experianced with IMR 4350 and at 40.6 gr. and a 107gr SMK I was getting superb gruops .200 -.300 inch groups with that charge.

In my opinion I think 41.5 of 4350 might be too hot. and it not giving you good results.

After alot of research.. I ended up with this

This is my setup, Mike Bryant custom.243 WIN .269 tight neck, Broughton Barrel @ 1-8 twist, custom reamer built by PTG for a 243 Lapua Case and Sierra 107 gr or 105 Berger VLD.

This was my final LOAD DATA is used, my recipe. Lapua Brass, 40.6 gr of H4831SC, Federal Gold Match primer, 107 gr Sierra Match for target shooting or varmint hunting.

my other load is basically the same, which I use for hunting. same brass and primer and powder, diffrent powder charge which is 40.5 grains of H4831SC with a 105 gr Berger VLD. and it gives me excellent results And it my hunting load.

I hope it helps. Vic

41.5 gr H4350 give me the give me the same groups you are getting with your charge 40.5gr. With my ladder test 40gr range didnt yield good results but at the lower charge of 38gr was good groups didnt start to tighten back up until 41.5 -41gr range

i am gonna switch to IMR 4831 maybe the heat is whats killing the velocity or maybe heating the bullet up so much that is acting weird in flight

My Lee manual list H-4350 with 80 gr bullets start load 43.0 max load 46.0 grs.
My Hodgdon 2011 manual list the 85 gr Bar. XBTC with H-4350 start 42.0 max 45.5C That being a compressed load on a Barns bullet means that you can't get enough H-4350 into a case with your 85 Sierra bullets to over load it pressure wise. Just start low and work up. I have found that you usually find best accuracy about 1 grain below max so that should be around 44 grs.

If you have any IMR 4064 use 37.3 grs for average 3100 fps. It has always been a shooter for me. This is the accuracy and hunting load suggested in the Sierra 4th edition manual.
