I need 6.5 140g AMAX HELP PLEASE"UPDATE"
Guys I am getting fustrated I cant get my group smaller that 1 1/2" at 200 yards with my 260 rem. I have had 2 other shooters pull the trigger for groups both are military trained shooters.
I am shooting a 260 rem
1-8 twist Brux light tagret with APS pain killer brake
140g AMAX
44.5g H4350
Rem 260 cases, full length resized, trimmed, chamferd, debured, primer pockets uniformed
CCI BR2 primers
seating to just under mag length in my wayats mag box
What the heck does the AMAX want?

Re: I need 6.5 140g AMAX HELP PLEASE
1.5" at 200 yds is less than MOA, approx 0.75MOA.
With 162 a-max in my 7mm mag I seated them to just touch and went up in grains until I got the velocity I wanted and was not getting pressure signs.
I don't know what you have done to get at that load, so here's what I would do from scratch.
Start with the bullet at the lands and increase the powder until you hit pressure signs, pick the best powder weight, then seat the bullet deeper(away from the lands) to see if that improves.
Once you have the best combo of powder and seating depth you could swap primers or try it all over again with another powder.
The other thing is to check bedding pressure points, scope mounts etc.

i've had excellent results with reloder 19 in a 260. I don't think it's the bullets, I'm using the same ones.

Re: I need 6.5 140g AMAX HELP PLEASE
Thanks guys I shot a full ladder starting at 42g up to 47 had a poped primer at 47g backed off. Best load was 44.5g. Re shot that 3 times same group 1 1/2.
Re did ladder starting at 44g went to 45g in tenth grain increments. best load still 44.5g
I want to use as a repeter so I guess I will try more seating depth changes. I have only shot one load with a shorter seating depth. I was worried the load would be to compressed.
If the seating depth does not close the load I have H414 I might try. I went with H4350 because after all my research it seamed at I might get the best speeds from it.

I rebarrelled a Model 70 to a 260. Heavy barrel, 8 twist. It would not group with H 4350 But loves H 4831 41.6 grns with the Amax. I'm using Win. 7m/08 brass. I have not chron'd the load. .4 groups

Gary
Thanks for your advise. I got some diffrent primers Im trying today they are fiocchi large rifle. I have never used them but its all my guy had. Will see! I am taking my partner press to the range with me and I am going to do seating depths in real time with the BR2 primers the fiocchi is just kind of a see what it does with 6 rounds test.

Re: I need 6.5 140g AMAX HELP PLEASE
Just back from the range tried a whole bunch of different stuff. Switched brass used different seating depths. But it didn’t help! It all came together by switching primers I went from the BR2 to the Fiocci LR and got 2 two groups that look like this. That’s 0.812" at 200 im happy with that time to load up at stretch it out
