hornady factory ammo sticky when ejecting with bolt

I bought 2 boxes of hornady custom 270 for my wifes gun. I shot 6 rounds to adjust scope. Cases were sticky when ejecting and 1 case didnt eject stayed in chamber. Cases looked fine as no pressure signs. Is this a safety issue? Should I contact Hornady? Any advice would be appreciated. THANKS

Hornady QA has been suspect lately if you ask me. I have a box of superformance ammo that seems as though thye forgot to prime the primer. With the five I could get to go off, they were fired across a chrony and ES was 250FPS and the fastest was a 25-06 117SST doing 3380! I had 2 of those, I decided to just send them back.

When this happened did you shoot another manufacturer's ammo w/o issue? Assuming it's just the Hornady custom ammo IMHO I wouldn't have shot more than 2 or 3 and contacted Hornady. Have you emailed or spoke with them?

Chas1 thanks for your reply. Saturday Aug 14 I shot 5 remington 130 gr accutips to adjust scope. {our deer season opens on Aug 15} Had no problems with this ammo. This is the ammo normally shot from this gun. I just thought I would try the hornady 130 gr sst.I looked on the box for a ph # all that was on there was a email adress. I will be emailing them today. Thanks for your reply

Since you have fired other ammo without trouble definitely contact Hornady. If the Hornady had been the only ammo fired I would have suggested checking the chamber for rust. I helped a fellow with a rifle last year that looked to be in perfect condition on the outside but he had failed to oil the bore and chamber prior to storage and just enough rust was in the chamber to grab the case. Solution was to clean the chamber with steel wool wrapped on a large bore brush, attached to a segment of cleaning rod, chucked in a hand held drill. Making sure that nothing touches the stock or other parts, spin the wool in the chamber for 30 seconds and it should polish anything out. then blow out with air, clean and very lightly oil.

If you don't mind sharing with the rest of us, it would be interesting to hear what Hornady has to say...if they respond.

Re: hornady factory ammo sticky when ejecting with bolt

Chas1 sorry for the late reply computer has been down. I got hornadys ph # off the web site and called them. I explained what happened and told them I had fired 6 remington accutips after i had fired there ammo and the accutips performed flawlessly. They said to put the ammo in box and tape the box up.They said ups would pick it up and would have a tag furnished by hornady to put on box for shipping. When I ask what they were going to do with ammo they said they were going to test it and they would get back with me later. They took my ph # and email address. nothing was said about a refund.
