Re: Help!!! need load for 257 weatherby

If any of the above loads don't do it for you; here's one you can try; Wby brass, 72 gr RL22, Fed 215M or 215, 100 gr barnes TSX BT, OAL 3.190. Start from lower like at 69 gr and work up to the 72 gr charge watching your velocities. 72 gr should get you into the neighborhood of 3550 fps. You can play with OAL to fine tune from 3.130 on up to 3.250. Most have success around 3.170 to 3.190. The TSX is a good match for the velocities the 257 is capable of. Kills well and doesn't bloodshoot the meat up so much. I think it will outpenetrate most other hunting bullets also. Alot of guys shoot this load in their 257's over at 24hr campfire.com. It works well in my rem 700 sps stainless. I haven't tried it in my vanguard submoa yet as I run accubonds in it. That load is Wby brass, fed 215M, 73.5 gr RL25, 110 gr AB, OAL 3.250. As always, start lower and work up for "your" gun!

Here a question. I know there are several powders on the market. Does anyone know what Wby uses in the 115gr blst tips bullets? I have often wondered about this.

I am pushing the 100 grain bullets 3750 fps with magpro. They group just a bit over an inch at 400 yards. It will be caribou hunting next week. This rifle is sheer terror on stuff up to caribou size. Bought it for deer and antelope here in Wyoming. Recoil like a 22-250 with a muzzle brake.

I'd like to know as well. I'm guessing NormaMRP would be a prime suspect.

This thread is from over 7 years ago...I don't know how accurate of an answer you're going to get from the original posters.

Re: Help!!! need load for 257 weatherby

Well If anyone care several years back I just used the Weatherby 115 BT ammo. I took one antelope doe at 258yrs and the bullet logged in the off side shoulder under the hide fully opened. 2 days later I shot another at 398 and had complete pass through with about a quarter size hole on the exit. Since then I sold the weatherby for a 6.5x284 Norma. I was surprised when the new weatherby came out with the 300 case necked down to a 6.5. I think the 257 necked up to a 6.5 would of been more practical. But that would of been I think almost the same as a 264 win mag or just slightly over.
