Re: HELP!! Looking for 7mm STW Brass

Hello all, Iam also a 7mm stw-aholic,Matt, and in the search for stw brass. Midway does have Quality Cartridge stw brass in stock, but its pricey and untested in this caliber. I have read some reviews (from other calsibers) and they are mixed. What dies are required for 8mm or other resize? Aquestion for Varmint Hunter: What is this nonsense about choosing another cartridge?

I second the notion for the non sense of choosing another cartridge. The STW will shoot circles around the 7RUM., and a lot less finicky to boot. I tried one and didn't like it. As far as your question on the dies for 8 mm, all you have to do is get 8 mm rem. Mag brass and run it through your 7 stw dies set to full length resize. The 8mm mag is the parent case for the 7 stw. No other changes are needed except to shrink the neck to 7mm, and that's it! That's all Layne Simpson did when he originally invented it. Finding 8mm mag brass is probably the best bet at this point.

Besides 8mm case you could use the .340 Wby Mag or the .375 H & H will work!
I have a .358 Shooting Times Alaskan which uses the same cases as the 7mm
STW Brass

Re: HELP!! Looking for 7mm STW Brass

I'm always looking for brass as well. I happened to find 150 cases this last fall after I aquired my 7STW. I know it's not enough, so I'm keeping my eyes open for the brass.

Hopefully Remington will do their annual run of 7STW brass soon and put us all out of our missery.

Dan

You are correct on the 340 and 375 brass. I heard, or read about that somewhere awhile back. I also heard that you can take .300 H and H brass, partially resize it in the full length 7stw die, then fire form it in the chamber, just as you do with Ackley improved brass. There is some GOOD H-H brass out there! I think you have to modify the load, and seat the bullet INTO the rifling in order for the brass to fire form correctly. I think you have to use a fast burning powder. These are options that if I had to , I would. It's worth it.

Try fire Froming, by using a few grains of pistol powder, and a peice of cotton to hold the powder in place then fill it up with cream of wheat then top it off with bullet lube works wonders ! I use .340 wby Mag brass neck it up and fire from in it my work shop !
