Goodgrouper.....

Is that your pick I saw in VH along with your partner in crime !

Good Shooting, ON TO 2000 yards. I damn near landed on a chuck last night with the Kahn at 2300 yards while testing the XOTIC USS. Very near miss. Close enough to send him to his den not to return, even at that range.

TO bad close only counts in horse shoes and handgranades!!!

Good shooting to both of you!!!

Re: Goodgrouper.....

I haven't got my new issue yet but it sounds like it will be a keeper!

I can't wait for it to show up now!

Sounds like the Kahn is going to plunk a 2k chuck anytime now. We took the MOAG out last weekend in a 25 mph wind and Brian had three shots at a dumb pup at 2025 yards that missed by inches! All three shots would have put a nice little centered group on the gong which blew my mind considering we had something like 7 minutes of wind dialed into the scope to account for the wind!!
Let's see.....2025/1.04x7=289.28/12= 24 feet of wind drift for a bullet that has a corrected bc of something in the high .8's!! That is tough shooting.

So Kirby, if you dump a 2k chuck before the 1500 yarder, what club would you enter the shot into?

Re: Goodgrouper.....

Goodgrouper,

Sounds like a good time.

Yes the Kahn is shooting very well and certainly has the potential to into a chuck at +2000 yards. I ordered a Lue Mk4 6.5-20 with the new TMR reticle and it should be here tomorrow. This will give me a bit more in the eyes for chucks at this range. Will have to see if the Mk4 will take the Kahn out to this range. It should, I have a 20 MOA Badger Ord base on her but it will not have room to spare like the XOTIC.

This Mk4 is actually going to a customer who told me to test it out at extreme range which to him is 800 yards. He will be impressed if I can get into a chuck at +1 mile with his scope.

As soon as he picks that one up I will be ordering a NF NXS 5.5-22 for the Kahn. Nothing like playing musical scopes!!!

If I do slip into a 2000 yard chuck I will probably list it in the 2000 yard club, we will have to see, as we both know there could be a hell of alot of near misses before a chuck gets hammered at these ranges. Its all fun though!!

Good luck with your +2000 yard adventure. I suspect you will be there before me!

[/ QUOTE ]Fiftydriver,
I could not agree more "a lot of near misses before a chuck get's hammered" is a gross understatement.
Shooting to 1000yds is fairly tough but with the right equiptment and a little slack from Mother Nature shots can be somewhat routine, moving back to 1500yds can be a whole other story (finding a varmint that far away, fighting mirage, even spotting your misses can be a great challenge).
Moving back to 2000yds is more difficult than I ever imagined regardless of the equiptment that you have ,so many factors have to fall in place along with a bit of luck to make a shot at this range. so far me and Goodgrouper have had no luck what so ever combined with the ultimate bitch Mother Nature (hurricane GUSSIE and her 25 to 75mph wind's) every time the MOAG has come out of the case.
I am convinced that persistance will prevail in the end and that a 300gr SMK will end some poor chuck's miserable existence some time this summer.
Will keep you posted B.

Re: Goodgrouper.....

Brian B.

Good post, I agree with you as well. If we were looking for high high percentages we would certainly not be shooting at these ranges. Still in my book, landing a bullet within a foot of a chuck at +1500 yards is an accomplishment in and of itself. Really, once you get a rifle load combo to group at that level at this range in field conditions(I hear you about the wind!!) it is really up to lady luck as to getting a hit.

As you say, persistancy will result in success and its funny that you can go so long with no hits and then all of a sudden they will occur, sometimes multipule hits in very short order. They they go away again for awhile.

At these ranges we have to be very good, but to think there is not some level of luck involved would be dead wrong!!!

Good luck on your future adventures and congrats on your sucess so far!!
