Creedmoor loads

Looking for a 6.5 creedmoor load using 140gr VLD. I shoot a Savage 12LRP. Can I seat a big VLD deep enough to still be used in the mag, or will I be down to single feeding? I seen recipes for other calibers all talking about setting it so the bullet touches the rifling. Should this be the same for the creedmoor as well?

Incase its not super obvious, I am fairly new to the rifle reloading. Only did shotgun before.

Re: Creedmoor loads

I've got a Savage 12 Predator 6.5 Creedmoor and I can load the Berger Hybrid 140 grainers all the way to the lands with just a little room to spare in my mag. The 140 A-Max's loaded to the lands give me quite a bit of extra space in the mag box.

Re: Creedmoor loads

I know its not exactly what your asking but.. I shoot a sav. 111 LRH in 6.5 creed with 130 grain vld's and am able to seat them .030" off the lands and still fit in the mag. However, from .080"-.030" I did not notice a detectable difference in accuracy.
hope that helps!

Re: Creedmoor loads

Thordog, I use 41.0 grains of reloader 17, cci br-2 primers and shoot both the berger 140 and the hornady 140 sst. COAL is 2.777 and the sst is a little more accurate in my rifle (rem 700)----berger shoots half minute but the sst is a one holer. Great round.

Re: Creedmoor loads

You bet! My hunting load is: 43.7 grains of h4350 extreme, hornady brass, fed 210 primer, 130 vld for hunting, seated @ 2.831".
My slightly reduced load which actually does help with brass life is identical except for the 43.1 grain charge.
Both loads are extremely accurate, with a very slight nod going to the 43.7 load.
Both charges also maintain similiar if not the same hold out to 450 yards, after 450 the 43.7 load stays quite a bit flatter.
If your gun is anything like mine you wont have any issue getting a sub moa load, This caliber has a huge sweet spot. everything I tried with the above ingriedients from 41-43.7 grains was accurate, 44 grains started to open up quite a bit (1.25ish").
Hope that helps!
