Casing sources..??
Very soon now I'll be venturing into unknown ground.....reloading fireformed casings..! 25-06AI.
It "appears" that I can also use 30-06 casings; run them thru the 25-06 die; fireform them into "AI" casings and from them on use the "AI" dies I have. Both 30-06 and 25-06 are 2.494 long
BUT!!..
A 270 and a 280 are 30-06 castoffs...and are 2.540 long. Can I run them thru the 25-06 die; TRIM TO PROPER LENGTH; load them and then fireform them into "AI" casings??
Any help appreciated

Re: Casing sources..??
Never mind. I received an answer that my time was worth more than 20 cents an hour and to have to ream too thick of necks etc..etc...just spend that amount of time seeking a supply of 25-06 casings.
Thanks guys

Don't know how much you are wanting to spend on brass but I just bought some Norma 25-06 brass and it is excellent. No trimming..only thing I had to do was uniform the primer pockets and chamfer the inside of the case. No dents in the cases and none had to be thrown away. Much better quality than rem or win.

The $$ for 25-06 casings wasnt any problem...it was "availablity" is all. Sometimes places are out of them.!! And I thought I could take a 30-06 or a 270 or ?? and resize it...trim it and blow it out and be good to go. Forgot about necks being too thick and that sort of thing!!! Its the little things that always jump up and bite ya in the butt!!!

I don't know why more people don't use the 25-06 or the 25-06AI. Both are good antelope and deer rifles. I would get mine rebarreled to the AI version but I'm too lazy haha. I am sold on the Norma brass.

Re: Casing sources..??
At times it actually helps accuracy to use brass from a larger caliber and neck down/fireform it. I do this on my 7stw if I need brass and can't get stw brass. I simply run 375 h&h brass into a long set 300 die, then into the 7stw die to form the shoulder, fireform, and trim to length.
The slightly thicker brass will fill the neck area of the chamber better on most guns, but on a really tight necked gun, you may have to turn your necks.
