I was thinking of buying 30-06 Lapua brass and sizing it to 280 rem and then fireforming to a 280 ackley is this possible? and or recommended considering there is Nosler brass already formed?

well it could work but the 30-06 is .046" shorter than the 280, I've heard good things about the nosler 280 AI brass, but my experiences with using nosler to form 6.5 Gibbs cases (270 win.) has been horrible.
If it were me I'd use win 280 cases or norma 270's and neck up to .308, resize to 280 and fireform.

I used the Nosler brass for my 280AI. Have not had any problems with any, they were pretty consistent weights and looked nice, shiny and new when opened. I did however chamfer the cases just a smidge more. They have only been reloaded twice and were slightly pricey, but when I figured in time and the cost of fireforming, it equaled out....
Yes you can. I do exactly as you have proposed doing. I'm using 30-06 Lapua brass necked down and fire formed to my 280 AI chamber. I have 99 fire-formed and ready to go. (Lost one of them).
How does the length work out for you? This is posted on another forum, and some responders say that the brass will be short by 0.050". I would think that the reforming process would lengthen it sufficiently.
I'll measure the case lengths of some of my fire-formed brass and add to this post, providing some case length data. I'm not aware that a shorter case neck will substantially degrade accuracy, provided all the cases are trimmed to the same length. There's plenty of case neck length to hold the bullets securely in the case.
