bullet seating depth question

bullet seating depth question

how much of the case needs to be holding on to the bullet in a bolt action repeater the caliber is 338-284 if that matters should it be the full length of the neck or is there an excepted minimum. thanks

    The rule of thumb is one bullet diameter, but you may find you can get by with a little less than that if necessary.

    As a rule of thumb, the diameter of the bullet that you are seating would be the minimum.In your case that would be .338 into the neck.
