bullet depth into cartridge

I just got a 300 WSM and have been checking out loads. Nosler 220 grains will be one of my choices. How deep can they be seated in to the cartridge without being dangerous? It looks like they will be well into the case past the neck.

a man can never have to many guns but one wife is just right

A 300 WSM will do best with the 180-200 class bullets.

Depth is generally not a safety issue (if you know what you are doing), but it is a case capacity issue. Longer heavier bullets will have to be seated deeper using up the available powder room

Get a Hornady OAL length guage. You'll also need to get the adaptor to fit a dial caliper so you measure to the ogive of the bullet and not the tip. See how far out you can seat your bullets at the lands. Your mag box will dictate how long you can seat but at least you'll know how much the bullet is jumping to the lands.

Published OAL lengths aren't always that accurate. Magazine length and ejection port width also matters. Let the gun tell you overall length for your cartridge. I prefer the Hornady OAL guage also. Lets you measure each bullets best seating depth no matter what the bullet weight.
