H4831sc works really well in the 300 WM too.

H1000 here as well. Works great for the 208 AMAX. Running 77gr. Went as high as 78 but things started getting sticky for me. Winchester brass and CCI 250 primers. Shoots pretty dependably. Anything under 700 yards is kind of boring with it.

Re: Best powder for LR 300 win mag

Thanks for the input and load data. Finally heard from my gunsmith and my custom 300 win mag is finally going to ship out next week.

I have 210 and 215 Bergers on backorder right now, and the only bullets I've got in hand are some 210 Nosler ALRs. So I'm going to start with the ALRs and H1000.

Sounds like a good starting load would be 73 grains of H1000 to be safe and break in the barrel, and then work up from there...

I'm a little hesitant to start with the ALRs since they have no track record, but I don't think I have the patience to wait any longer for the Bergers.

Re: Best powder for LR 300 win mag

Load devolping for my buddy's .300 WM (I reload his ammo for him, since he doesn't have the coin for a nice setup right now), we have discovered that H1000 and Reloder 22 are the most consistant in his rifle with his bullet of choice (Hornady 178 A-Max).

Hope this helps.

IMO Barrel break in is a waste of time. Shoot it clean it.

I actually agree ... my "break in" plan was 5 rounds at 73 grains to get it sighted in, check velocity, get a feel for the gun, and calm my excitement that's been building for 14 months waiting for this dang gun!

Then a ladder test with 2 shots each from 73.5 up to 77.0 grains of H1000 to find (hopefully) a sweet spot. I feel safe starting at 73 grains, but nearly impossible to determine max considering this is a brand new gun shooting a brand new bullet...

Re: Best powder for LR 300 win mag

After reading a bunch of post about what is the best powder for the 300 win mag. I picked up both H1000 and RL22. As far a accuracy goes the RL22 was the best hands down. So my vote goes to RL22.

As far as barrel break in I personally don't believe in it.
