Re: Best Cheap Chrono??

i have a shooting chrony, i can't remember right now if its an alpha or beta or something els, but it always worked fine for me. there were some goofy readings here or there but like i said for the money it worked just fine. i have since taken up f-class shooting and have upgraded most all my reloading equiptment.

if you want to buy it just to try i'd sell it cheaply enough. this way if you don't like it you aren't out much.

I don't think a 'decent' chronograph can be purchased for $100-$120. Unless 'decent' means nothing more than confirmation that a bullet passed over the unit.

If you intend to use the recorded velocities for any serious purpose, you'll have to pay more.

well i have to disagree. i actually set up my old shooting chrony directly behind my friends ced while using my magneto speed, my results show that they were all consistant from one another. the shooting chrony always registered approx 20 fps faster than the ced which was 25 fps slower than the magneto speed. all units had sd's very close to one another which tells me there weren't many extreme variations in velocity measurements.

Good thing about a Forum is no one needs to agree with anyone.

Re: Best Cheap Chrono??

When I was researching on chronies, I didn't find anything good about the RCBS model ... having said that, stay away from it.

They sure make good targets though, earlier this year, I saw a fellow range member shot his RCBS chrony ... not sure if it's by accident or intentional

NOTE:
Even the most expensive chrony is not a match to almost any rifle-bullet combo when Murphy is around.

Re: Best Cheap Chrono??

I have a Pro Chrony and am pretty satisfied with the performance. As long as the battery is good , the shot is lined up, and the light is decent it reads out consistently.
