Berger vld's .05" of the lands?

Anybody have problems shooting decent groups with vld's not touching the lands? Reason I ask is they won't fit in the magazine if I seat them to touch the land. I'm looking for an ultra long range bullet for my 300 saum.

Another way to address the problem:

Normally, the top round in the magazine actually sits above the magazine body and can be loaded longer. Including the round in the chamber, you now have a 2 shot rifle. This is what I do with one of my LR rifles that is loaded .007" into the lands.

You could have an extended mag installed and problem solved. Can't remember but it's close to .125 longer than the original. Of course a gunsmith would have to do it.

thats it,why didnt I think of that light bulb I hate being so dislexic,

im having the same problem with my 7mm stw, two shots are better than one!!!

Just make the first shot count and you don't need a second.

Funny you should say that. The rifle I was referring to is also a 7 STW. I was loading the 162gr A-Max which is also a rather long bullet. They shoot tighter groups when loaded into the rifling of my Hart bbl.

Good info and solutions to long bullets, but my question is still unanswered. Can vld's shoot good off the lands? Any info would be great.
