Re: 7mmx300wsm reloading

GA Precision modified my existing bolt. I am pretty happy with this 300WSM it is crazy accurate and with heavy bullets the velocities are nice. 200SMK 2800 not a barrel burner and plenty of juice for long shots. It hits like a sledge hammer at 1500+ > I have never grouped that far but I know I can hit a 12" pumpkin! ( and a couple water mellons!)

7mm WSM brass new is only available in winchster. The 7mm-300WSM is a perfect combo especially for long range. Norma brass beats the hell out of win brass. Anybody have suggestions/preferences for dies to size down to 300WSM Norma to 7mm?

I had a question for you. I have Rem 700 5r milspec.
It was .308. I had GA Precision re-chamber it for 300wsm. I had been thinking of re barreling it to 7mmx300wsm to take advantage of the high BC bullets.
I have a bunch of 300wsm brass.
whats the scoop on reloading 300wsm brass to 7mmx300wsm. Do I just use a 7wsm die with my 300 brass. I know the brass dimensions are a bit different.
Also Are there any real advantages to using 300wsm brass over the 7wsm?
Should I just suck it up and get new brass?
Any info would be great. Thanks guys
So, you already have your rifle converted to 300 wsm? Is it shot out already or your just ready for something new?

My winchester WSM action is actually longer than a remington short action. Its sort of a "medium length" action, specific to the WSM cartridge. Nice marketing trick, wouldn't you say? Introduce a "short action magnum" and then build rifles with a medium action....

The 7-300wsm is a good idea compared to the 7mm wsm if you don't mind the wildcat aspect. You'll need 7-300wsm dies - you can't just run 300wsm brass through standard 7wsm dies.

Another thought might be the 7mm rem saum. Its a little shorter for your remington action, longer neck and slightly more efficient than the 7wsm.

Here's the article from 6mmbr.com....

No, she's not shot out. Actually she's still a tack driver. The WSM fits fine in a true short action. That's weird that they would due the medium action receiver.
Its a fun project, thats the only reason for the inquiry. Also, I was spoiled with the low recoil and accuracy of the .308.
The recoill is more than I like. I am now thinking I will simply get a suppressor for the gun. I have a suppressor on my .22lr. Its fun. I hear that a suppressor is the best brake you can get.
I have heard that suppressing will mess with accuracy. I have not seen that at all. If it does it is at the benchrest level, you know, .003 off. I am making 2.25" groups with this gun at 400 (175gr SMK, 69gr Reloader19). And thats off a bipod, prone. I like it, I just want to lower the recoil. I am also into efficiency. I like the high BC's of 7mm's. Velocity is a depreciating commodity, High BC is like diamonds, it last forever ( or at least a few hundreths of a second! HAHA)
catch you later

Re: 7mmx300wsm reloading

If recoil is an issue now, don't expect a .284 bullet to solve it. I can't notice any difference in recoil between a .300 wsm and a 7wsm. Like you said, the suppressor (or brake) is probably the answer.

Anyway, I hope you like the article...
