7mm Ultra Mag loads??

Hey fellas, I have finally decided to start reloading for my Remington LSS 7mm Ultra Mag(with a Magna-Brake) due to it getting harder to find ammo for this cannon. I picked up 1 lb of US 869, 1 lb of Retumbo, and some 140gr Nosler Ballistic Tips. For years I've been using the 140gr Core-Lokt or 140gr NP with great success. A friend of mine (who is going to do the reloading) has some Remington brass and CCI MAG primers. My question is: Does anyone have a pet load using either of these powders in their 7mm Ultra Mag?

I had good luck with Retumbo using 160 grain Nosler Accubonds but I can't help with the 140 grainers. You should buy powder in the 8lb jugs for the RUM, you could run out before you get a good load worked up.

I NEVER shoot reloads that I didn't load myself, they might be perfectly safe but why take the chance. That RUM is not one to pick a random load and start shooting, you need to work up very carefully.

Just my opinion!

Re: 7mm Ultra Mag loads??

I only shot 154gr and 160gr in mine.

Retumbo gaves me best accuracy and top vel.

IMR7828 was closs for accuracy but not for speed.

Re: 7mm Ultra Mag loads??

I shot the 140 gr Nosler Ballistic Silvertips for several years out of my 7mm RUM. I used 95.5 gr of Retumbo lit by a Federal GM215M primer. This load shot really well, and made a load of one shot and drop kills. Seriously, don't think I ever shot an animal with those load that ever moved once it was hit, just dead right there. I'd have to check my load book for velocity, but I know it was somewhere in the 3450-3500fps range. Definitely work up to this load carefully, as your rifle may not handle the load exactly like mine does. Also, be very careful how low on the load range you start. This round does not do well at all with light loads, and tends to have detonation problems if the load density is too low. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info and I wouldn't trust just anyone to reload for me but he is a lifelong friend and is very meticulous.
