6mm AI loads?

I'm building a 6mm AI off a Savage 110 action with a 1-10" twist for 70-100 grain bullets.

Anyone have some good varmint or target loads?

Thanks,
Tyler

The only load I use in my 244 Ak is 4350 with the 105-107s in a 1/8 twist.

6mm AI Loads

Ty, look at the 87grn V-max. It has a BC of .400, not bad for a varmint bullet. Start with 49grns of H4350 and work your up. You should be able to work up a load that will push the 87grn V-Max at around 3500fps.

I'll second Wildcat recommendation. My 6MM Remington with it's 28" Shilen match barrel will push the 87 grain V-max at 3300 fps with only 43.5 grain of IMR 4350.

The 87 grain Vmax looks like the bullet I'll use for varmints. At about 3500 fps it's within an inch or two of the Burris ballistic mil-dot reticle out to 1000 yards.

6mm AI Loads

Tyler, let me know how it works for you. I am getting ready to have a 6x284 built, and I will be using the 87grn V-Max too, for my varminting. I will be using a 30", 1-8.5 twist, Krieger barrel. I will also use the 105 and 107 grn VLD Bullets.

My last 6x284, with a 30" barrel, pushed the 87grn V-Max at 3730fps. I know that's hard on the barrel, however, it was awesome to watch when it connected with a squirrel. It was super accurate too, I shot many 3 shot groups at 100 yards in the .1's and low .2's. The load I used was as follows;

Powder-52.5grns of H4350
Primer-Federal 210 Match
Bullet-87grn V-Max
Brass-Lupua

If your interested, here are the specs on my new 6x284;

1. Action-Nesika Model L, 1.70 Diameter
2. Barrel-Krieger, 30", 1-8.5 twist, 1.450 Straight tapper
3. Stock-McMillan Tooley MBR, 5Lbs weight added to rear
4. Trigger-2oz Jewel
5. Vias Muzzle brake
6. Davison base with 20MOA
7. Kelby 30mm Rings
8. Nightforce 12x42x56mm NXS
9. Rifle will weight around 31 pounds

Anyhow, keep us informed on your load development.

I'll let you know how it turns out. This will be my first venture into handloading and buiding a custom Savage...so when I report back don't look at the accuracy of the loads. Should be lots of fun though. Last I was told a 26" barrel is two more inches than I need, though the girls at school might not think so. Again, this is a direct quote from someone else, though I'll take credit.
