6.5 x 284 loading question.

I was wondering if anyone has had any luck loading H1000 in this caliber. I am currently having one built and would like to get ahead of the game. If so please shoot me a response and some load data if possible. Thanks again for all help and suggestions.

Re: 6.5 x 284 loading question.

4831 or 4350 is what most competition guns run. I resisted for a while but trust me there is a reason they do. In the teens and lower ES. I have had pretty good success with RE22 and 120 Barnes. The real man is a really stout load of 4831 with a 142 SMK. Check this out. 6.5-284 Cartridge Guide All you need to know right there. Mine will shoot 1/4 MOA honest if i could read the wind at 1000. The vertical at 1k is well under 1/4 moa. It is the horizontal that gets me. I did try H1000 but 4831 is the one to beat I actually run SC.

Re: 6.5 x 284 loading question.

My top hunting load for both my 6,5x284 rifles that produce .25MOA and velocity of 2965FPS out of 26" barrels is:
Berger Hunting 140gr VLD, loaded .075 out of the lands.
Lapua brass outside neck size dia. .292"
Retumbo 59gr. (work up from 57,5)
Fed 215 primer
This load will hold 1000 ft/pds of energy to 1000 yards.

Re: 6.5 x 284 loading question.

I use a load of 49.5 to 50.5 grns (depending on the weather) of VV N160 with CCI BR2 primers and Berger 140's. This is a true 1/4 MOA load in my gun out to 1000+ yards.

Re: 6.5 x 284 loading question.

I was getting 1/8" groups at 100 with 57.5grns H1000 in Norma brass with fed215m's and 140 amaxs but I wasn't happy with the velocity, you may be it was just over 3000fps, now. I'm using retumbo and bergers at 3074fps from a 26" barrel. Id start that load at 56grns or 55.5 in lapua brass.

Re: 6.5 x 284 loading question.

It's a great cartridge and people here seem to be pleased with H1000, Retumbo and others.

You can't go wrong with H4831SC.
