6.5 wsm, please educate me.

I have been trying to decide for some time on a 6.5 project. I was contemplating a 260 or a Swede. Now I have heard references to a 6.5 wsm. What kind of velocity, accuracy, bbl life etc are folks getting. It may be what I am looking for.

If you have one, lets hear all about it. Things you like, things you would have done different if doing over, etc.

Thanks.

For easy reference, the 6.5 WSM and 6.5 Win mag are the same thing.

Accuracy- great
Speed-3100-3200fps with the 142s
Barrel life- you gotta pay for that kinda speed is all I will say....

260, 260 AI or the 6.5-284 would honestly be better choices....the 6.5 WSM has been fun for me to play with, but is past the point of diminishing returns, so to speak.

Chris,

Of the above listed calibers, which do you prefer for the long range game and why? I am most interested in punching paper and varmint then big game. I have LR guns in other (larger)calibers for that.

Anyone else want to share their experience with 6.5s? What do you think is the ideal balance between velocity, barrel life, down range capability/performance, user friendly loading, brass life etc

Re: 6.5 wsm, please educate me.

depending on use the 6.5-284 is a fine cartrige but a 6.5x55AI is better similar velocity with less powder and better barel life. if it is for a short action hunting rifle take a look at the 6.5 Remington SAUM the case is better for a short action and slightly shorter and smaller capacity is more ballanced. the 6.5x57AI is just as good as the 55AI but cases are more expensive with RWS being the pick of the bunch. in a modern action and a 30" match barrel the standard 6.5x55 is verry good aswell pushing a 142gr bullet near 2950fps only 100 fps behind the AI versions and 6.5-284 you do have a good choice in 6.5's what barrel length? What Action? and what bullets do you want to use for what dicipline Target? or hunting? im not sure what you exactly want to use it for??
