6-284 load data \"Help\"

Hey guys, as mentioned in my other post I am getting ready to have a 6-284 built. I am going to be using a 1-12 twist 30" Krieger, and I will be using 75grn and 87grn V-MAX bullets. I am hoping you guys have some load data for me regarding the 75grn and 87grn V-MAX bullets such as, POWDER, CARTRIDGE OVERALL LENGTH, PRIMER, POWDER CHARGE, VELOCITY. My goal is to get between 3650fps to 3750fps with the 87grn V-MAX and 3850fps to 3950fps with 75grn V-MAX. Let me know what you guys are using and what kind of velocity and accuracy you are getting. I will be using Lupa Brass, and I will be neck turning. My 6-284 will have a tight neck ,272nk. I am also using a Nesika Model K, 1.450 Dia. Action, so I will be able to handle more pressure. I am looking forward to see what you guys have regarding this combination. I went with the 1-12 twist because I want to shoot the lighter weight bullets at high velocity. The guys at Krieger informed me that the 1-12 twist would be perfect for what I was trying to accomplish with this rifle. Thanks guys!!

Re: 6-284 load data \"Help\"

If it is velocity and Accuracy you want try either IMR-7828 regular or SC and R-22. With a 87gr 3600fps is easy with a 6-284. I was shooting 95 B-tips at 3514fps with 52.5gr of R-22. That load shot in the .1's at 100 and around 1 1/2" at 500 yards. I would start at 52gr with either powder and the 87gr bullet. If you are going to shoot the 75gr then you are going to want a powder like R-19 or Imr-4831. I would start again around 52.5 and work up. Make sure you work up in half grains and use a Chronograph to help tell when you are topping out. Things happen quick pressure wise in this case.

Re: 6-284 load data "Help"

I have never shot light bullets in eather of the 2 that i have had one was a 1-9 and the current one was a 1-8 twist. Mine have always loved 95 or 105 hunting bergers in norma cases and fed 210m. I have had great luck with hoghden 4831sc charges anywere from 48-52.5 and velocitys from 2950 to 3200. Hope it helps. mk
