.416 Dakota Data?

I was wondering if anyone has some data on this cartridge? I will be receiving a .416-.375 RUM soon and figured this is the closest cartridge to get starting data from. I have 400 Swift A-Frames, but will have other bullets coming soon.

I have no idea. Just thought I'd tag in, and hope continuing the conversation let someone with knowledge see the question. It should be a thumper.

Re: .416 Dakota Data?

Hornady 9th edition has some data for the 416 Dakota.... seems like the powders are in the 4350-4831 burn range and going from low 70 grain charges to 90-100 depending on the powder. Tell me what you have in that burn range and I'll get you data if they have it. 2500 fps with a 400.

edit...They also have 416 ruger data, which will be a lot better since it is actually the same case as their 375. powder speeds are slightly faster with 760 and 2700 as the slowest they use.

Re: .416 Dakota Data?

Thanks a lot Lefty I haveW760, H414, and H4831 for powders. With the way things are up here in Alaska powder is a hard comodody to come by. These are the powders I believe will work. The others I have may be too fast or too slow; BL-(C)2, W748, R25, Retumbo, H50BMG. Thanks again.

Re: .416 Dakota Data?

Very close to the 416 Rigby

H4831 is a published load for Hornady 416/400grns on AmmoGuide is now... "Interactive"!
I recommend subscribing AmmoGuide is now... "Interactive"! it's worth it.

Google books has the page for the 416 Dakota at Cartridges of the World: A Complete Illustrated Reference for More Than 1 ... - Frank C. Barnes - Google Books

This is all from QL:
H414 and W760 are in a usable burn rate range.
BL-C and W748 are way to fast
Reloader-25, Retumbo and BMG50 are way to slow.
