416 BUFF

Over a year ago I started this project and promised
to report back with the results.Due to long delivery
of the barrel and the holidays I lost about 4 months,
but have finished the rifle and started testing loads.

With a water capacity in grains of 126.5 (24 grs more
than the 416 REM and 8.4 less than the 416 WEATHERBY)
loading is straight forward and shows promise.

Dave Manson cut me a great chamber reamer and Hornady
made a fine set of dies that sized 200 rounds of brass
with no losses (may be a first for me).

Below are some pictures .

I will post load data, velocity, energy, and other info when
testing is complete .

I know that this is not considered a long range rifle but
with over 6000ftlbs at the muzzle and a trajectory as flat
as a 270 win it does have possibilities.

Recoil is in the mid 50s and very manageable.

Should be a real Stopper.

Re: 416 BUFF

Love the barrel finished. Did you do that or you farmed it out? Beautiful rifle.

Re: 416 BUFF

Thanks Desert Fox

All work is done in my shop from start to finish.

I love to make accurate rifles and like to make them
look good as well.

Again thanks, glad you like it.

Re: 416 BUFF

very sweet looking rig. is that a break on there or are you shooting this without one? i'm guessing this thing might have a bit of recoil.

Re: 416 BUFF

Why such a large contour barrel with gun that wasn't built for LR or why such a low power scope on a LR rig? It looks great though and the caliber is interesting.
