There are two types of bullets that could be called
protected point.

One has a polymer tip and the other has no lead beyond
the jacket(no lead tip).

The polymer tipped bullets are normaly thin jacketed
and expand fast. The other has a heavy jacket and
by removing the lead tip it doesn't get beat up in the
magazine or when loaded from the magazine.

Most of the jacketed dangerous game bullets are constructed
this way to prevent damage in the mag from recoil.

Years ago before polymer tipped bullets we would trim the lead tip off to be able to seat farther out (closer to the
lands) and still work in the magazine.And they shot and
performed well on game.

Velocity and the type of game your hunting determines what type of bullet to use.

woodleigh makes good dangerous game bullets so I would
think there 338s should be very good performers.
