Re: 338 300 grain Accubond Update

The BC has been verified in the field by Nosler, guys.

As far as why use the AB Vs the SMK....... well without offending anyone. The SMK is not a hunting bullet per Se. It has worked ok and it has been a disaster in hunting from what I have seen. In my opinion not great consistency. That said some swear by it. Personally I will not use it on game. But this is my personal opinion. YMMV.

The accubond is a ballistic tip with thicker jacket and the core is bonded to the jacket. Specifically a hunting bullet. It will not come apart like a cup and core.

The 260 375 accubonds has been used on cape buff without any issues.

Here is a thread. Not too scientific but gives you idea....

Re: 338 300 grain Accubond Update

I have had extremely different results with accubonds. I have had them blow up and I have had them act like a full metal jacket. The SMK I have killed stuff with were very impressive all the way past 1000 yards. I would have to really get impressed to switch from the SMK to the Accubond. I doubt the accubond will be as accurate at long range as the SMK or berger. Accuracy is where's it's at. I have yet to know anyone that has has bad results with a 300 GR SMK on game but know many people with bad results with accubonds. Guess we will just have to see how they work out.

Nosler says Biggest,Baddest bullet with a .720 B.C. I thought the SMK had a .768 B.C.Bobby

Re: 338 300 grain Accubond Update

I was hoping for more with this bullet. I assumed with an advertised .720 BC that this bullet would have to have a new shape and Ogive design compared to the current AB's. From the pics it appears to have the same Ogive shape, not to mention a loooong bearing surface. My assumption comparing this bullet to the SMK next to it in the pics, I don't see how it could come close to .7 BC. The two bullets side by side look like a barge sitting next to a cigarette boat. I guess we will just have to see what test results here reveal.

Re: 338 300 grain Accubond Update

I agree and they where afraid to put a .818, Berger otm in the picture. Some have milled bullet in half and measured jackets, that would be interesting. The log test means little, do that test with a mono metal, great penetration and more weight retention. The long bearing surface may hamper velocity? I think in NA all the 300 will perform because they are large and in charge. I have experianced the same as Highridge with AB, I have used and still do a lot.

Some more AB performance.

They hold up well.
