308 Baer info

Can 300 Weatherby shells be fireformed in a 308Baer chamber like an Ackley? I tryed to run a couple of 340 Weatherby cases into the 308Baer die but it only resizes ½ the neck before the shoulder collapses :confused:
Does anybody else reload for the 308Baer? Any and all info would be very helpfull.

The .308 Baer broke the world record at Williamsport twice in the same year, and was listed in the Guiness Book of World Records.
It has broken every agg record at Williamsport in heavygun, and has been quoted as being the 6 ppc of the 1000 yard benchrest game.

That being said, the case of choice is the .340 Wby.
You need to neck it down in a full length .300 Wby size die, then turn the neck if you have a .336 neck. Fireform when doing load development or at the match.

You can use the .300 Wby case, but you will be about .20 shorter than the .340 case.

I've been shooting it for years, and can help with load data if you need any.

I did Email Baer and his short reply was simply to run the 340s into a 300 die.
Thanks Joel for expanding on that a little more...I should be able to get it up and running now and I'll take you up on your reloading info offer, no sence reinventing the wheel.
So if I get this right the 308 Baer is just a 300Weatherby with a little longer neck and regular shoulders instead of the radiused shoulders of the Weatherbys??

The .308 Baer is a .300 Wby improved with a 35* neck and body taper blown out. Quite efficient..

My light gun just put 3 shots in under and inch and put the other two out, bringing the group to 6" at the 1000 yd IBS nationals.

I have shot them out at 2900 fps.... but they generally like to be run between 2750 and 2850 fps.

You'll find the accuracy load somewhere between 70 and 74 gr of H-4831sc.

Had a guy shooting a .308 Baer with the 240 SMK at the mile two weeks ago. Conditions were tough to say the least.
He did quite well, considering he was up against a few of us armed with the Big Baer spitting the 300 SMK at 3200 fps....
