300WSM bullet and load

I am looking to use 180gr or 200gr Accubonds for all my big game hunting out of my Kimber Montana 300WSM. The majority of the loading manuals I have looked at do not recommend the 200's in this chambering. Will the 200 carry enough velocity for longer ranges or should I stick with the 180's or even a 165? Also, which powders work best in this caliber? I am not a fan of compressed loads, but want as much velocity with good accuracy. Thanks for the help!

Re: 300WSM bullet and load

I load the 180gr. bt out of my brothers 300wsm. It is loaded down but shoots good and he can shoot good with it. Killed a deer at 300 and something this year with it. I wouldn't hesitate to go with a 200gr. pill out of a wsm for long range. I would go with the accubonds, the 185-210berger and the 180bt. I havent tried the 208gr. amax yet but they may have some potential.

Re: 300WSM bullet and load

I have not used the Accubonds. I have used the 150 gn SST for some load development and used the Barnes 150gn triple shock for my hunting.....the Barnes holds up well, is pin point accurate....just expensive. Dropped a 125lb pig at 85 yards and a cow elk at 675 yards.

If you do not have a OAL guage like a Stoney Point, you might get one...once I knew how far I was off the rifling, and adjusted, the accuracy leaped out.

IMR4350 or H4350 have been used with excellent results.

Re: 300WSM bullet and load

I would not go heavier than 180 in the 300 WSM.
The 180 TSX is a excellent bullet along with the 165/168 TSX and Max Load IMR 4831 or Reloader 19 with WLRM primers in WW cases.

Save the 200gr for the 300 Win Mag.

Re: 300WSM bullet and load

I've been loading a few of the 300 short mags and the 168 class bullet, IMO, has the best balance. I'd shoot the 180 over a 150, however.

300 WSM

I would reserve the 200gr for the 300 Win Mag.
I have had best luck with Reloader 19 @ 70.5 and 180 Nosler Part...with WLRM primers in WW cases.

and 165 Barnes TSX with IMR 4831 @ 69.5

Re: 300WSM bullet and load

I shoot the 190 berger with h4350 I am pushing the 190 berger easily to 3000fps. I am also starting to load the 210 berger so far I have pushed it to 2930fps. Dont let anyone tell you that you cant use the heavier bullets in the 300wsm. Both loads have showed under .5 moa... Punch the numbers into a ballistic calculator and check the numbers against lighter bullets.. Trust me try the heavier bullets first, this was told to me and I didnt listen and tried all the lighter bullets first (A WAIST OF MONEY).. Oh and I am doing this in a 24" tube a longer tube will yield better results.. Its all about the B.C...
