300WM Load Needed (Berger)

Gentleman, I need a good starting point for Berger 185 VLD's using RL-22 powder. I've turned a 7mm Mag Sendero into a 300WM with a Broughton 5C, 26" HEAVY barrel. I have Fed 215GMM, CCI-250 and CCI-200 primers. Also, would you seat at the lands or jam .010. I have a good load using SMK 180's(.5"@200yds) jumping .020 but their opening up @400 yds (2.5"). Is this the norm? I wouldn't think so seeing that the 1000 BR guy's are shooting 5 to 10 inch groups or so at that distance. I have other powders so other sugestions are welcome. IMR-4831, IMR-4350, H-4831SC and H-1000. Thanks for any help.

Re: 300WM Load Needed (Berger)

I'd say to start around 71-72g and work up from there. 75g of RL-22 w/180g bullet is pretty standard load in the 300 WM, so 5g bullet difference shouldn't matter a whole heck of a lot...Bergers like to be seated touching or in the lands up to .020" for best results. I dont think they usually shoot to well with much jump...H1000 is also a very good powder in the 300 WM. I would actually rather use H1000 then RL-22...

If your getting .5" at 200, and 2.5" at 400, dont worry about it. Theres a lot involved in LR shooting..2.5" at 400 is still like .6 MOA...

Try H4831SC and F210s.

Most VLDs like touching as a minimum to as much as .030 in.

Start working loads at .030 in and come out in .005 increments after you found the right powder combo.

I have not used that particular bullet, but I have had excelent results with H-1000 in the 300 Win.
range it,check the wind, dial in correction, aim and only one shot
