If you don't know the answer, it isn't a dumb question...

JPH - C.O.A.L. stands for Calculated Over All Length, as I understand it. It refers to the length of the loaded round, in this case 3.671 inches. This info is useful in whether you can run this out of your magazine / box for loading rounds, or whether you will have to use the loaded round single shot (the round is too long to fit in the magazine/blind box). Also, it lets you know how deeply someone is seating their bullets in the cartridge case - some reloaders like to seat the bullet 'at the lands' 'into the lands' etc.

A good way to polish up on your vocabulary is to read a reloading manual, or do a search of the forum topics, once you get the hang of it, the search function is the way to go, as there usually is lots of posts to read on single subjects...

Welcome to the site, albeit a late welcome...

COAL stands for cartridge over all length, and 3.671 will fit and function properly in a factory rem mag box. this is important if you are loading for a hunting rifle were you would like a couple extra rounds handy for a quik dispatch( hope it only takes one) just my 2 cents

I use a 200 AB with 92.5 grains of H1000 out of my lilja 27 inch. I tried the retumbo first but found that i could only shoot about 12 rounds before the powder fouling was too much. mine shoots around 3175 fps and a COL of 3.360

good luck

It stands for Cartridge OverAll length also known as C.O.L...You will need calipers to measure the over all length of the bullet from rim to tip...You probably should measure your rifle to see how long your chosen bullet is before it touches the rifling...and then you will be able to see how far off the lands your bullet is i.e. how far it has to jump to engage the rifling...some bullets like to jump a bit such as the Barnes TSX and the Nosler E-Tip..others such as the Berger usually like to be pretty close if not actually touching...This will mean more to you as you actually start working up the load and start seeing the differences that length makes...Keep in mind also that the closer to the rifling the higher the pressure so be careful! good luck 30-338
