Re: 300 wm deer load

I use IMR 4350 with Hornady 180 S.P. 71.4 gr powder CCI 250 primer. Only reason I use the magnum primer is that is what the book calls for. Out of my chronograph it runs 2990 fps. Shoots good. Ruger 77.

    74-76 grains of RL22 drives a 180 Partition at about 3100fps.
This combination makes lots of 1/2 holes at 100 yards in most rifles.
The up side to this load is you wont have to cook the meat very long!

Personally I prefer a 200gr partition or Accubond at about just over 2900fps.

    That's awesome!
Exactly where my 300s with 200AB and H-4831 like to shoot!
Mine runs 2860fps with that load.
    My accuracy usually isn't quite that good though....sort of hovers around the 3/8" @ 100yds and 5/8" @ 200.

The 200AB and 71gr of RL22 gives my 1.25-1.50" groups at 351yds (my test tree). I have never tried it at 100, but I expect it would shoot up there with your load. That load runs 2940fps.

    Nice shooting BTW!

Interesting; when I choreographed it, I averaged about 2,850 which is real close to your 2,860.

    I figured as much.
Every 300 I have tested those loads in did about the same thing and if the rile didn't shoot the velocity was off buy a bit (tight /sloppy chamber or bore). Adjusting the load to the "ideal velocity" had every rifle ragging holes...Kind of neat huh?
    I have no idea why.
