300 WM with 190 VLDs

I have been searching for loads with this combo and have only found this load was highly recommended.

H4831-73.0 Grains/Lapua Brass/ 190 Berger VLD -2880 FPS@75F

Anyone else got some recommendations? I will be using Nosler brass instead of Lapua fwiw.

Think I could stabilize this bullet in a 300 SAUM? I may just have to try.

Do Bergers prefer to be seated into the lands 0.005?

Has anyone done the figuring or just know from experience how much velocity you can give up to larger sleeker bullets and still get a benefit?

I'm looking at 175, 185 and 190 Berger VLDs in my 300 WM and 168 and 175 Bergers compared to 175 SMK in my 300 SAUM. Anyone got some ideas?

I have a MS word table that has about forty BC's on it and they are all started with a muzzle velocity of 3000fps and then checked at 500yds and then evry 0.05 BC I checked velocity at 1000yds to get a "feel" for changes in impact velocity for changes in BC.

In very rough terms every 0.1 of BC will give you about 150 - 200 fps at 1000yds.

Of the starting velocity you get about 50 % of it at 1000yds. Or every 100 fps more or less gives you about 50 fps more or less at 1000yd (for an average BC ) Obviuosly a low BC you get much less of you starting velocity increase at 1000yds and for a high BC you get much more.

So for a BC of 0.5 and a starting velocity of 3000 fps you can give up about 100 fps at the start if you get about 0.05 more BC or more. If you give up 100fps to get 0.02 more BC then you will lose impact velocity. However, if you got extra weight or better construction then you may well get bone crunching power at 1000yds even with the slower bullet.

I'm shooting 73.2 grs of RE 22 under a 190smk ,. velocity 3050ish . 100 yds, one ragged hole ,300 yds .7 " Lapua brass, fed215m , .010 off the lands.

Chris Matthews built this stick, 28" Broughton ,11 twist , hv 7 taper. Thing is , I am a average shooter, with average experience, imagine what someone with good eyes ( did I mention that I'm also on the downhill slide [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif[/img]) could do with such a rig !

I have also developed a 220 smk load using H1000 that shoots like a house a fire with this rig ., sorry , not at my reload bench right now so I can't give the charge wt.
