300 win mag 190 SMK load

I am looking to work up a load for my Remington 5r 300 wm with 24" barrel.
I will be using Norma brass. I tried the Berger 230 OTM and got decent results. I was loading them with 74gr H1000 @ 3.620 OAL. With the 230 I measured the lands at 3.63

I'm a big rl fan but I have to say h1000 will be your friend here. rl25 would suffice too. I haven't worked with 190's in a 300 win in a good while though so I don't know charge weights. I give the heavier pills to my 300rum.

My 190 SMK oad is 70.4grs of RL-22 0.015" off the lands and Fed-215M primers. It's s very mild load but shoots exceptionally well. Most groups are under 1/2 MOA for me. Out of my 28" Hart it runs 2,977fps.

Re: 300 win mag 190 SMK load

I have found H1000 to produce good results with Fed 215's with just about everything I have loaded in my 24" Milspec. My favorite and most accurate load is Berger 210 Hunting VLD's at 2900 FPS. I have found Retumbo to be as accurate in my rifle as H1000, but ES is consistently better at 7FPS or less, and produces higher velocities with no pressure signs. I use Norma brass, 215's, load .010" off the lands, 79 gr.

Re: 300 win mag 190 SMK load

Back when the .300 Win Mag was popular for long range prone matches, folks shooting the winning scores with it used 67 to 68 grains of IMR4350. Sometimes RE17 was used with good results but I don't remember the charge weights.

Nobody used magnum primers for best accuracy; they were never as consistant as medium ones. Even mild ones such as the RWS 5341 gave excellent accuracy in several 30 caliber belted magnums with IMR4350; .308 Norma Mag, .30-.338 Win Mag. and others I now forget.

Powders slower than these may well produce higher velocities, but seldom the consistant accuracy, in my opinion.
