300 win mag & 180 BT & H1000

So I have been shooting rl22 with 180 ballistic tips. I'd like to try h1000. I'm having trouble deciding on a starting load. Any suggestions? I like the ballistic tips because they are cheap and are the same specs as accubonds which I will use for hunting.

For plinking with 165 and 180 NBT's I have found the best results ( speed, accuracy, low ES, etc.) With Imr4350. I seat 180s .030" off the lands and use 73grns of Imr4350 and do the same with 165s with 75grns. You will use a lot less powder and no need to use magnum primers. You will need well over 80grns with H1000 and a CCI250 or fed 215m and your extreme spread will open up with H1000. If you must use H1000 I'd start at 78grns and work up.

My best accuracy load with the 180 gr BT or 180 gr Swift Scirocco using H1000 is 79.5 gr. My rifle handled loads up to 81 gr (very compressed) with no issues, but accuracy fell off noticeably.

Have fun,
Brian

How was accuracy? I knew 180 was on the cusp of light for the powder but Backwoods83 post has me questioning my choice now. Is there a load you prefer to that?

Re: 300 win mag & 180 BT & H1000

My rifle seems to prefer RL22 with 180s. Accuracy load was 74.5 gr with the Swifts or Sierra BTSP. With 190s then RL25 took over along with H1000. Both RL numbers showed major temp variation so I have been using H1000 with all loads 180 and up with good results, only 0.1" larger groups at 100 and same at 200.
