300 Ultra reload for 210 Berger

Just bought a new 300 Ultra mag in the sendero. I was running some number and it looks like the 210 bergers would be a better long distance pill in terms of down range energy than the 190 or the 185. Does any one have any load data and volicity data with the 210 bergers. Would like to see about 3000fps if possible with them but that may be asking for alot and also pressure issues. Any data would be much appreacieated. Will probablly start off with retubo power. THANKS....

I think you should skip the idea of using the 210 which is a VLD and use either the 215 Match Hybrid Target or the 230 Match Hybrid Target. You will get a higher BC and downrange energy over the 210 VLD and the hybrids are seating depth friendly.

If you are worried about performance you can relax. Check out these two threads, thanks to Broz, and you will most likely reconsider using the 210 VLD.

Berger 230 and 300 OTM Hybrid terminal results

It is possible to get right around 3000 fps with the 230 with a 300 RUM.

Re: 300 Ultra reload for 210 Berger

I shoot a 300 Rum .
Federal 215 Match primer.
Retumbo powder . 85.5 grains.
That is the starting load on the berger chart I am getting 3050 FPS verified by my exbal real world drops.
Remington Brass (make sure you stick with the remington brass . I used the Nosler custom and had pressure problems with it. I was told by some forum members that it is alot softer than the remmy

I get very good groups with the retunbo powder but I am going to try the 215's next

Re: 300 Ultra reload for 210 Berger

Go with the 215's. As stated they are not seating depth sensitive. I worked up a load this fall for my Sendero. 91 gr H-1000, Fed 215 Match, Rem brass, 2985 fps, COAL 3.843". Stopped here because it shot so good, no pressure signs. Just got back from Saskatchewan and the 215 Berger dropped a buck at 724 yds. DRT with massive wound channel. I would not hesitate to try this bullet. Only thing I would like to change is my barrel from 26' to a 29 or 30".

Re: 300 Ultra reload for 210 Berger

Beeman,

I wouldn't worry about getting a longer barrel. Try some RL-33! I got 2975 with the 230 gr bullet from 300 RUM with a barrel slightly shorter than 24"

You might ask why such a short barrel? /The 300 RUM had a 27" lijla but the twist was too slow to shoot the 230s when they came out. I just had to try them. I have a 300 RUM reamer and grabbed a new 24"rem takeoff in 300 win mag for $50 off the net. I installed and rechambered it myself. Had to remove the recess in rear of barrel to fit it to a post 64 model 70. Was using H1000 and getting low 2800s, then RL-33 showed! In my 300 RUM it works fine. Actually worked up to 102 grs where I had a hint of bolt lift so backed down. The rifle lost weight and is very handy with this shorter barrel. It does kick a might at 9 1/4 lbs. No brake.

Re: 300 Ultra reload for 210 Berger

Thanks for the info on RL 33! I might just have to try it. Only problem is I have about 7lbs of same lot H-1000 left. But at around 75 rounds per lb I use it up relatively quick. I am from Manitoba so it gets really cold and I will not be shooting it much this winter. Do you think RL 33 would work in a 7 STW with a 180 gr Hybrid? A friend of mine just got a sendero take off barrel and is hoping to shoot the 180 Hybrid. I also like that H-1000 is temp stable. My ES are also very good.

Sure you could try RL-33 with the STW and 180s. Here is Alliant's data:

7mm stw 175 gr speer deep curl, 84.5 gr RL 33 @ 2946 fps
7mm stw 175 speer hpbt, 85.7 gr RL 33 @ 3033 fps
