300 rum ??

Ive been working up some loads for my rum. Im trying to prove my buddy wrong so tell me if im missing something here. He falls in love with the speed factor of the 190 vld and im trying to prove to him that speed isnt everything. 190 gr burger vld at 3244fps and a BC of.574 At lets say 1000yards it drops 235in with a zero of 200 yards. With a 210 gr berger vld at 3000fps and a BC of .631 at 1000 yards it drops 230in.It seems to me that 210 would be a better bullit to put a little time in to. because it has more bump down range and it wiil be a bit more stable also. Now im not saying that im shooting a bunch at 1000 but that is something i do want to work up to someday.
One more ? ive been working with the 190gr and i know that it shoots real good (and safe) at 3244 using 96gns of H-1000. But im haveing a hard time finding 210gr berger volosity data. Should i start using Ratumbo or stay with the H-1000 And about what gr should i start with to get my stock 300rum to reach 3000fps with the 210vld Or is that to much to ask driving a bullit that heavy that fast? Thanks for any info you guys can through my way..

Re: 300 rum ??

Rockslut, This is what I have had pretty good sucess with in my 300 Rum all fired at 300yds in a stock 26" Sendaro barrel.

185 Berger VLD 97gr. H-1000 = 3400fps / 1 ragged hole
200 Nosler AB. 91.5gr. RL-25 = 3260fps / 1 ragged hole
210 Berger VLD 91.5gr. H-1000 = 3020fps / 1 ragged hole
210 Berger VLD 94gr. Retumbo = 3100fps / 1 ragged hole
220 Sierra MK. 91.2 Retumbo = 3000fps / 1" groups

Re: 300 rum ??

Are the 2 210 vld load consitered pretty hot or do they have a little room to grow. I know every gun is different. But should i load say 5 shots at 90gr 5at 91 5 at92 and 5 at 93 with the H-1000 or would you say that is hot. Thanks for the info that gives me a good place to start.

Re: 300 rum ??

The 2 210 loads have more room, but that is where in my gun in my location was the best efficiant. The H-1000 will at some point start to drop in velocity the more you stuff in it. Retumbo on the other hand will start opening up primer pockets and you would only get 2 maybe 3 shots out of the brass before you toss them. Both shot excellant as you see from my notes, but I'm staying with the 185VLD. It has prooven itself on a steel gong at 500yds plus a few kills on some hogs and I am very happy with the results I have found.
