Gotta love that 200 AB and Retumbo combo

I have been shooting the Nosler 200grn AB in my rifle for about 6 months now. Over the Crony I'm getting roughly 3200 fps with my load from a 26" Hart #5 contour barrel SS Fluted.
I'm using 95 grains of Retumbo, Federal 215M primer, Remington case. No signs of preasure and have gotten 6 fireings from the starter batch of 20 rounds that I used for load work up.
Like always start lower and work up to match the load to your gun. What works for me might not work for you.

Has anyone shot a deer size animal under 150 yards with that combo( 3,000+ fps & 200 Accubond)?

I have only shot 1 deer @ 330 yards and was very happy, but read elsewhere about an African hunt where the Accubond did not perform.

Hi,

Yes I did...
91gr - 3031fps
95.5 - 3199fps
96 - 3138fps
96.5 - 3228fps (very hot - hard to extract fired cases)
97 - 3219fps (verry hot - max load firepin imprint in fired cases brases, and problems with extracting cases out)
All this one at 4500elev and 10Celsius, with Retumbo.

ALWAYS START WITH MINIMUM LOAD AND GO UP...

Chris

Yes, I shoot deer from 150 yards, 305 yards, 420yards, 620yards with this combo 3031 fps & 200Accubond.
If you hit "boiler room" you are ok, if you are going for shoulder hit - expect to get big exit wound (5inch circle) and lots of damage.
The damage is close to 180gr Swift Scirroco on 300UltraMagnum.

I've killed a lot of stuff with the .300 RUM and the Accubond. The closest kills being a mule deer doe at 125 yards, double lung shot, dead in seconds. I also took a six point bull at 42 yards, and the 200 gr piled him up immediately. mtmuley And if you don't hit where the meat is, you don't ruin any.

Thanks for the replies. The Accubonds seemed fairly tough to me, but the African writer shooting what I would assume to be Elk type game, had very poor performance and I wanted to make sure that his was the anomaly.
