300 grain 338 Lapua speed out of a Savage?

300 OTM Berger 26" barrel

I am getting 2685 fps (89 gr of h1000) out of my Savage. Shoots a very tight group. At 90 gr of H1000...I get sticky bolt lift, and only get up to 2700fps.

I wish it was around 2750fps, but that is way over pressure...what do you think is going on. Thanks

Chamber, Headspace, barrel tolerances? Or how about a lying chronograph??? My suggestion to you is to not worry about that number. You have a very potent LR hammer there. Shoot it and get use to it and see where your drops say you velocity is at 1000. I recently set up a 338 RUM for a friend with 300 SMK's. It shot so good at 2680 fps we decided to leave it there and shoot it. He has been whacking game and targets to 1000 and is in love. Plus the rem brass is lasting. Don't sweat it. dialing a few more clicks is probably the only difference you will notice.

I get 2640 FPS with 90.0 grains H1000 and Berger 300 OTM. Shoot what is accurate in your rifle. I have the 111 LRH.

In my 110BA using Lapua brass with 300 SMK's I use the OCW load recipe of 89.3 grains of Retumbo and get dead-on 2700 fps from those bullets...

86 gr of h1000 i dont get any sticky bolt.....

87 gr of h1000 i get just a touch of sticky bolt lift, but acceptable

my groups are 1.75" at 400 yards when shooting at 89-87gr...

at 86, velocity was all over...but at 87 velocity was very repeatable so i am sticking with 87gr (2650fps with 87 gr)

i just wished it could have worked at 2700fps

also...on the side on the case rim, i can feel a burr just under the edge of the back of the case.....of where the extractor must grab...what is that from?

that burr might be pretty normal, depending on how deep it is... is this Lapua are Hornady brass? Hornady is pretty soft...

Retumbo will peak later than H1000, and would probably give you that extra bit of speed you're looking for.

That said, it sounds like your accuracy is fantastic, so I'd be hard pressed to change anything.

Run some ballistics tables and you'll see that the 50 fps difference isn't really going to mean all that much at the target.
