30-06, 180 SMK,180 SGK,NEED ADVICE ON POWDER CHOICE

HEY GUYS,I'M LOADING FOR A 30-06 WITH A 22"TUBE.WOULD LIKE TO GET MAX VELOCITY WITH ACCURACY ALSO.I'VE BEEN RESEARCHING POWDER CHOICES AND CHARGE WIEGHTS.I THINK I SHOULD USE POWDERS BETWEEN IMR4350 AND RELOADER22.THE "SLOWER" END OF THE POWDERS WILL FILL THE CASES MORE.IN YOUR EXPERIENCE WHERE SHOULD I START?

RL-22 is a little slow for an -06 with a 22" bbl. Concider RL-19 or even RL-15 for the shorter tube. RL-22 works well in a 26" -06 with heavier bullets (190 and up)

54 gr of IMR 4350 and a Fed. 215 primer is a good load for the 180 SGK....

I have found no better powder for the 30-06, at least in mine, than IMR4350.

I don't shoot 180gr bullets, but I can say for 165gr's it seems that 56gr is the sweet spot for any bullet short of a barnes.

Re: 30-06, 180 SMK,180 SGK,NEED ADVICE ON POWDER CHOICE

Ditto on what Waffen said, but I shoot 57 gr IMR 4350. The load I shot in my '06 with 180s was for an autoloader and loaded to function in that rifle only. Accuracy was second fiddle, but they shot great. I believe it was 48 gr IMR 4895 or whatever the powder used for Garands. IMR 4064? It was 48 gr of 'garand' powder. Sorry, but I don't have my notes handy.

Re: 30-06, 180 SMK,180 SGK,NEED ADVICE ON POWDER CHOICE

180 grain bullets, I've had reliable accuracy from the following (in order):
H4350, IMR4350, IMR 4064 (best with Sierra bullets), and Re22. If I had to pick one for top vel., it would be the Re22 hands down. I've always had top vel. in my .06 with this powder and 3 diff. bullets: 180 Scirocco, 180 Part., and 180 TSX. Re22 is also the most accurate overall in my rifle (22" PacNor bbl.).
