Re: 280 AI Range Report

JD - thanks for the info. I have a encore pistol in mind chambered in 280 AI. that is several projects down the road though. Always interested in the caliber.

Re: 280 AI Range Report

JD I have a been trying my 280AI out with IMR 4831 & 140gr Ballistic Tips. I have not been impressed so far. My velocities have been very slow, & my groups have been improving but they are no where what you have been getting.

Re: 280 AI Range Report

Hvy Barrel,

You might want to try RL19 and RL22 powders. I have had very good luck with them in 280 Rem, 280AI and 338RUM.
My gunsmith told me that RL22 is THE powder for the 280AI and I have to agree with him. I have a great load for the 160 gr AB but need to search for a better load for the 140 ge BT and AB bullets. I am going to try RL19 with the 140 gr bullets. After having great luck with RL19 and the 120 gr BT, I feel that its woth a try with the 140 grainers.

Tell me about your load and your rifle setup.

Regards,

JD338

Re: 280 AI Range Report

JD338 I don't have my notes with me at the moment but, I have been following the newest Nosler manual's loading information. Without looking, I think tha the last load I tried was 55gr IMR 4831. My chronograph says I am getting around 2700 - 2750fps with the 140gr Ballistic Tip. According to the manual I should be seeing 2900 to 3100fps.
My rifle is a VZ-24 action with lite-meduim barrel contour. It was put together by a smith in rifle Colorado. I don't know his name, one of my relatives had it built.
If you need more information I will bring my notes in later.
