I use the old standard Jack O'Connor load of 60 grs. H-4831 with a Sierra or Nosler ballistic tip 130 gr bullet at average 3050 from my Remington 700 SS 24 inch barrel 270. It shoots bug holes at 100 yards and has killed every deer I have ever shot at with it out to 350 yards dead in their tracks with one shot. You can't ask for more from a factory rifle.

Hi im new to the forum. I have used the 270 win at ranges from 300 to 1000 yards. my currnet load 59 grs of 4831 with a rem case behind 135 gr smk 3100 fps in a 26 inch barrel, I us this load all the time to take rock chocks at 650 to 750 yards. Last year i took a buck at a 1000 yards with one shoot. That load was 130 hornady IB with 59 grs of 4831 but it was before i rebarreled it so it still had a 22 inch barrel

Thanks guys for all of the load info. I know this round can be very accurate and work good at fairly long ranges!

Oh, by the way, has anyone used any of the berger bullets for there .270 loads? I will be using 210VLD's in my 300wsm just wondering if they would work good in my 270win? Thanks Nathan,

Don't chrono it or you'll loose confidence. Just work up the drop chart and get to hitting things a bit of a ways out there.

I did real fine with a "book" load bagging a lot of game. I then bought a chorno and the load was going only 2900 FPS. What a downer!!!! I then loaded it up to nearly 3200 FPS and didn't do any better on game and didn't make any longer shots but I sure felt like some kinda kewl dude.
Why not use a magnum primer?

Wow another 135smk 270 guy!! I'm also new to the sight in seek of info and such. Are you using H or IMR powder? I'm using H with 135smk's and have loved them ever since i have found them and started shooting them. I 've ran through about 200 rounds and just received another 200 today for reloading this weekend. These are amazingly consistant bullets. My first test was this area I go to with ranged gongs out to 1000 and in the beging i was drilling te 400 then tried the 625, then the 800 and finsally the 1000 where i didn' do so well but thsi was my first time at a known 1000 yard mark and still learning my scope along with not knowing volocity it was a little guessing game.I will load 100 rounds friday and go out to shoot sage rats and practice on the 1000. Ever tried the cci br primers? Any difference?
