270 WSM Powder

Hello fellow hand loading associates from around the world. I have recently gotten back into loading for the 270WSM. I had one a few years ago and got rid of it because it just wasn't that accurate. I always love the terminal performance of the round though. Well a couple of weeks ago I picked up a Savage Model 11 FCNS and now I'm back to looking for a good hunting load. My question is what would you say is a good powder for this caliber. I have some 780 Supreme, MagPro, IMR4350 and H4350. I can get some Retumbo for a local out door store. I will be using Winchester Brass, WLRM primer and Nosler 140 grain Accubonds. I would like have a powder that can get me to at least 3200fps with low temperature sensibility. Thanks for all the help.

Re: 270 WSM Powder

I had a Retumbo load that worked pretty well with the 140 AB.

All the other powders work that you listed but the only ones that might get close to 3200 with the 140 are Retumbo and Magpro.

I'd use Retumbo, also try H1000.

I am using MagPro with good results.
Close to 3200 with a 140 Accubond.
And it meters great too.

My cousin uses H1000 in his 7wsm with good results.

Re: 270 WSM Powder

Retumbo, H1000 and H4350 are all extreme powders, which means that they are stable in changing temperatures. I agree with CogburnR that you have the best chance of reaching 3200 ft/sec with Retumbo or Magpro. I have gotten great accuracy with IMR-4350 and good accuracy and very good velocity with RL-22.
