270 WSM (IMR 4350, R19, R22 results)

These loads were based on Lyman 49th data plus some.

Norma brass, CCI 250 LRM primer, 130gr Accubond, 2.76in
65gr R22 - 3055fps
66gr R22 - 3088fps
67gr R22 - 3138fps
67.5gr R22 - 3151fps
68gr R22 - 3183fps - actually had 3 shots with 0 SD. (MAX LOAD).

Factory Win 130gr Ballistic Silver Tip 3267fps (3275fps rated). These shot 3254fps in Houston a couple of weeks ago.

62.5gr IMR4350 - 3216fps
63gr IMR 4350 - 3248fps (MAX LOAD)
63.5gr IMR4350 - 3273fps

These had Win nickel cases, but otherwise same as above.
66.5gr R19 - 3251fps
67gr R19 - 3277fps (MAX LOAD)
67.5 R19 - 3349fps wow!

All shot out of a Win mdl70 Super Grade(MOA trigger). It was pouring down rain, but this was my 3rd attempt to make a load for 3250fps(for the Leupold CDS turret) so I kept shooting.

R22 was pretty disappointing as I was hoping this was the powder to use for 270 WSM and a 130gr, but I tried some 7mm Mag 139gr loads (70gr) and they were 3088fps, so maybe the powder is off a bit. I am going to go with IMR4350 for deer, hog, and coyote load.

Good info, what length barrel are you using? I haven't loaded many 130's but it may be the breaking point for faster vs slower powders. I would try R17, I haven't had good luck with it for 140's and up but the lighter bullets it is flat awesome!!!

Re: 270 WSM (IMR 4350, R19, R22 results)

The only 130's Ive ever shot were factory federal ammo given to me. I shot them to get the brass. They were kinda cool tho. Very little recoil.
The two best powders Ive used to date on my 270wsm was RL-19, and IMR 4831, launching 140 grainers, and 150's. The IMR 4831 was ok for velocity, but grouped very well. But the hands down winner for combined Velocity, and group size was RL-19.
RL-17, with the 130's and you may have some success like Bigngreen stated.
Any particular reason your shooting 130's vs 140's or bigger. Not nockin your choice, just curious.

Re: 270 WSM (IMR 4350, R19, R22 results)

The 130gr at 3250fps is about the same trajectory as my 22-250 50gr loads, 32-33inches at 500 yards.

Gun and loads are for my dad. He picked the 130gr 270 WSM for it's trajectory before he picked the rifle. I recommended the mdl 70 Super Grade. Gun is gorgeous and action is like butter out of the box. Gun has less recoil than my Parker Hale 7mm Mag.

My personal choice would have been the 140gr Accubond. I've had the best luck with the Accubond for a variety of hunting loads for accuracy.

We have a double stand on our lease that has potential shots out to 700 yards. We're hoping with his CDS reticle he can dial in and hit the longer distances.
