Re: 270 WSM brass and load data

Maybe I need to start over. I'm not getting super great accuracy with Mag pro. I felt maybe it was the stock bbl ( Win Mod 70 ) IMR 7828 once produced a tight group but low velocity.

Re: 270 WSM brass and load data

If your not moving hardly any brass when you resize then the Norma is great brass but it is softer and won't quit hack the pressure the Win or Rem will. You really got to watch the Norma and Win's for case head separation, after they thin out .010 thou the next firing will crack. Rem cases are the best for max loading. I have gone 20 firings on some and the win went 6-8 the Norma 2 but my head space was a bit long till I set it back.
I haven't loaded many 130's but the 140's like slower powder like Retumbo and 7828 speed and I can run them around 3300-3400 with stout loads. 110's love R17 and are running around 3670, smokes coyotes!
I have yet to find a accurate load with Magpro but the speed was better than any other powder I've used but alas my rifle pukes on it.
Also have found new WSM brass is way small so looking for max load with fresh cases can show signs way earlier that once fired won't.
It's an awesome cartridge, in my opinion, and packs a better punch than you think it would.

Re: 270 WSM brass and load data

I have R19 and R22. R19 is a possibility. From the online articles I've read on reloading for WSM, R22 put up the factory velocities, and it has been my go to for 270 Win and 7mm Mag.

I really don't think there is any magic in these WSM's, they simply have more case capacity. They are an overbore, esp the 270, and it requires a slow powder. One of the selling points of the WSM was that it's short fat powder column was more efficient. Well, I can get the 270 Win to pop 130gr bullets at >3100fps with 58gr of R22, and the 270 WSM requires 8-10 more grains to provide an additional 200-300fps? The 4350 speed powders, including 3100 and R19, seem to do quite well in load data as well.

3670 fps with Re#17 110 gr Bullet ? What is powder charge ? Most I could get was 3,500 with 67grs..... What rifle are you shooting ? BBL length ?..................... Just curious is there snow on the ground at your location ? What's weather like year round in SW Montana ?

VARGET ! in a 270 WSM don't do it. You mean seating depth ?As a start seat it according to what it says in the many reloading manuals. Rule of thumb is seat it so that if feeds from magazine with out problem. What make/model of rifle ?
