270 WSM

COLT48
I just finished building a 7WSM and in the process
of seting the headspace found that the back of the
case was touching the outer edge of the bolt recess.

All of the WSM,s and Ultra mag,s have rebated rim cases.

Bolt faces are normally only a few Thousanth larger than
the rim so it stays under the extractor.

The solution for me was to bevel the bolt recess at the
Inside Dia. Just enough To clear the brass body.

NOTE Be sure and check Headspace in case the brass was
holding the head off the bolt face.

If you have any question,s please let me know because this
could be very dangerous"

Re: 270 WSM

Hi J E CUSTOM
i have lathed of 7 thou of the length of the bolt, after specking to nesika they told me that it looks like they had made the bolt face slightly to deep.
i asked about the head space, and was told this should not be a problem.

i have no means of measuring it at the present (IE no head space gage)and i live in the UK so if i get one it will have to be from the USA.

how do you check head space using a case,???

thanks for your reply
Colin

COLIN

Try to find some .0001 or .0003 shim stock.

Cut a small round piece that will fit inside the
bolt face.

Stick it on with a little touch of grease.

Load a resized {empty}shell and close very slowly.

It should not close on more than .0003 or .0004 .

I hope this helps
