.270 Winchester powder poll.

I am just in the thought stages of putting a load together for my Remington M700 ADL in .270 Winchester. I have settled on everything but the powder to start with. I am going to use the 140 grain Nosler Accubond.

Here are the two powders I have on hand: IMR 4831, H1000.

I am not opposed to buying a different one, but I would like to see what the results of the poll are.

For sake of voting, assume I don't have any of them or I have all of them.

Also assume that I would like the highest velocity that is accurate. (That is probably a given [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img])

You left out IMR7828 and CCI 250 mag primers. Work up to about 61.0 grains. R-22 gets about the same velocity and pressure with 1.5 grains less. The accuracy in my 270's is best with 7828.

H1000 will barely work even with 150 grain bullets. the case doesn't hold enough powder to get any speed with anything slower than 7828. You have to use a tall drop tube and pour slow just to fit in 60 grains

All of them besides H1000 are so similiar it would be hard to say one is better then the other two.

H1000 is pretty slow for the 270 but can be used with the top end bullet weights. Tend to offer a bit less velocity then the other powders listed. I would choose Rl-22 and H-4831. Again, pretty much the same cat between these two powders.

Agreed with the above posters. I just recently got done load testing for my own .270. I ran more then 40 loads through it. 3 different powders, 5 different bullets. I used RL-22, H1000, and H-4831sc for powders, with 130g bt's, 140g sgk's, 140g sst's, 140g AB'S, and 150g sgk. Velocity for my rifle is on the high side, 3050 with 140's and RL-22 and h4831sc, and right at 2950-3000fps with the 150 and RL-22 and h-4831sc. I am using 57.5g with 150g and either h-4831sc or RL-22. H-1000 was 100fps slower and grouping not as good. Funny thing is, the H-1000 loads were no more then 10 fps, while the rl-22 and h-4831sc are around 20-25 max deviation. If I was to use one powder, it would probly be h-4831sc. Great accuracy, velocity, and temp sensitive.

I guess I'm a bit on the outside of normal on this one.

Can't get enough 4831/7828/1000 in the case to get decent velocities (3200/140gr bullet). 4350 will do it but its a bit hot and turns the ol' 270 into a bit of a barrel burner, really. Scratch 1 Douglas 24" barrel......

RL-22 with CCI-200s or I suppose another non-mag primer gives velocity and accuracy. 130gr ballistic tip @3325 and 140gr Hornady @ 3200.

Goin' up the Blackfoot River canyon in the morning to spot for the shooter who will be bustin' rocks from ~300 to 600+ with that ol' 270. Should be fun.....

I use 52 grs of IMR4350 with a 150 grn Nosler Ballistic Tip. Shot really good for me. Used a CCI 200 Standard rifle primer.

I don't know how H-1000 speed would be in a standard lenght 270 barrel but I have gotten 3140 fps with 140 grainers out of a 29" barreled 270 Win
