270 Winchester loads with Berger 150gr hunting VLD
Has anyone worked up any loads for .270 Win using Berger 150 gr VLD's?
Thanks

Re: 270 Winchester loads with Berger 150gr hunting VLD
Ken,
I'd recommend trying H4831 with the 150s, but there's a good range of powder today that'll suit the bill quite nicely here. H1000, Vihtavuori N160 or N165 or Reloder 19 would also be good choices, an dwell worth a try. Drop Berger a line and they'll email you their tables for the 270 Win, including (of course) the 150 grain VLD.
Good shooting,
Kevin Thomas

Re: 270 Winchester loads with Berger 150gr hunting VLD
I have loaded some 140s with RL22. Got good groups. I was surprised to see on the sheet I got from Berger that RL22 wasn't on the list for 150 hujnting vlds.
Is there that much difference in 140s and 150s???

Re: 270 Winchester loads with Berger 150gr hunting VLD
Ken,
The RL-22 is a slower powder, but there will be some ovralp in applications. The 22 in this case would probably be quite usable, but may not have given as good of results as did the RL-19 whicvh was listed. Nature of the beast in doing reloading manuals; balancing time, resources and page space to those choices you think will best serve the greatest number of readers. Could have been nothing more complicated than that, or, they it may be that they just hadn't gotten to trsting the RL-22 just yet with this particular combination.

Re: 270 Winchester loads with Berger 150gr hunting VLD
I'm going to complete my testing later this week but in my 26" barrel I'm using 57 gr of H4831SC in a rem case w/ GM210M primers. I don't have my notes handy but I think velocity was somewhere around 2850-2950. I had a single digit ES for 9 rounds. Going to confirm though.......your mileage may vary
I think "DerekM" has a load with IMR4350 that's about the same speed.

Re: 270 Winchester loads with Berger 150gr hunting VLD
I haven't tried the 150g vld, but I did use sierras 150g sbt in my .270.
I had the best results with RL-22 and H4831, both velocity and accuracy wise. Both were loaded at 57.5g and the RL-22 load would do 2950fps from the 22" bbl, the H4831 would do 2900fps. Both were 1/2-3/4 MOA shooters. Both would easily wack my 15" gong at 800 yards with regularity.
I tried H-1000 and ran out of case capacity trying to get the velocity I wanted, but was getting single digit ES's.
