270 win & H4350

Working on a load using H4350 with 130gr GMX bullets for my 270 win. Plan on using Winchester brass, and I'm interested in using H4350. Anybody using H4350 with 130gr bullets? Have any recommendations? Looking for something over 3000 fps.

I've never tried h4350 but have seen it listed,I started useing imr4350 20yrs ago and never found the need to try others. You can hit the 3000fps your looking for from the imr w/very good accuracy.

I've not tried 4350 in the 270 but have had very good luck with H4831sc and 140gr AB at 3050fps. I've used 4350 with good success in the 243win so it would certainly be worth a try.

I've had remarkable success with both IMR and H4350 in terms of accuracy but have never clocked the loads. I've had equal success with 4831s in both brands. I think generally speaking you will get better velocity with 130s and 4831. Curiously, I think I recall a Speer manual listing 7828 with a 130 bullet as their top speed powder.

Re: 270 win & H4350

I have burned quite a bit of powder in a 270 Win.. I have tried many different powders and yes I have used H4350 with 130 grains bullets even though I have not loaded the GMX's.

One of my best loads with H4350 is Hornaday's 130 grain Interbonds, shooting 54.0 grains of H4350 in WW cases and WLR primers I am able to get an average of 2968 ft/sec and my best accuracy with this bullet. I did go to 55.0 grains and I was able to get over 3000 ft/sec but I lost my accuracy.

From my experience if you want more velocity H4350 probably is not the best powder. You need something a little slower, such as H4831, RL-22, or in my case N165. My highest veloctity has been achieved with Magpro and with the 150 grain bullets IMR-7828 is a great choice.

For both accuracy and velocity it is almost impossible to beat H4831.

Re: 270 win & H4350

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'm going to work with H4350, if I dont see any accuracy with it, then I'll try H4831SC or RL-22. the problem come is the the GMX bullet is so long that any powders the fill the case up becomes an issue with seating the bullets. They become a very compressed load. I do a few rounds and see what my outcome is. If not, Then proceed with other powder as mention.

Re: 270 win & H4350

I have used H4350 exclusively in my two Browning White Gold Medallion .270s for awhile now. One of them has a 22" Lilja #5 contour while the other still carries the factory barrel. Since I'm from California I shoot 130 gr. TTSXs in them but I like that bullet so much that I use it everywhere I hunt. The H4350 is the most accurate powder in both guns - better than both RL22 (which is a bit faster) and IMR4350 (which is close, but not quite as accurate). I see no reason to worry much about 50 or even 100 fps when shooting a .270 since I don't use it for truly long range shooting - I have a self-imposed 500 yard max - but 55.0 gr. of H4350 gets me 3,100 with .75 MOA all the way out. Honestly, what more could I ask?
