Re: 264 win mag loads

I have a factory model 70 with a 26" barrel in .264 WM and I'm shooting the 140 Bergers with healthy doses of H-870. Average velocity is 3248 fps.

Yes, there is a big difference between 3248 and 3300.

Have you tried r-22, IMR7828, H1000, R-25 or even retumbo? I believe in using slow powders and burning more. That is up to the point where the powder is so slow that your loosing velocity.

I would like 8 pounds of h870 to use in my 28 inch barrel 30-378 if I was loading 240 grain bullets

I would have never thought H-870 would have been my rifles powder of choice but it is. I consider myself fortunate to still have an 8lb jug .

Re: 264 win mag loads

Got a pre-64 M70 Westerner with a 26" tube and a late model claw feed sporter with a 26" tube and they love the following two loads. Been using the 140's for years, but due to the speed and accuracy, the 120's might get the nod for deer soon.

140 grain Sierra Game King - 63 grains of H4831 at a TTL of 2.49 and a MOAL of 3.295 - 3120fps

120 Nosler Ballistic Tip - 66 grains of H4831 at a TTL of 2.49 and a MOAL of 3.295 - 3390fps

Good luck!
