Re: .264 Win Mag 140 GR Sierra BTSP

I've never shot the 140 but for deer up here in North Dakota, 100 gr partioners or 125 gr partioners do a great job. Running 63.5 gr. R-22 behind the 100 grainers, and 61.5 gr of IMR 4831 behind the 125 grainer. both shot realively well, under .5 MOA in their own guns. Not sure on the speed i have never chrono them, only book values.

Never shot a 140 Sierra, but RL25 and 140 BT's or AB's run about 3180-3200 out of my 26" barreled 264WM. They are accurate as heck as well, from a sporter weight rifle. It took a bit of tuning, but it runs pretty well. I am using CCI250, Nosler Brass and RL25 for both loads.

140 BT at 300 yards

140 BT

140 AB

140 PT and Retumbo

If elk are on the menu, I would look at the better built 140's, I think they would pay for themselves if you happen to connect with bigger bones..

What would be a good starting charge of RL25 and the 140AB? I have a M70 with a custom Gaillard 26" barrel.

Re: .264 Win Mag 140 GR Sierra BTSP

I too have a passed down Rem 700 in a .264 Win Mag with a 12xx serial # that has killed almost everything in North America including 20+ moose. Since I have had it, I have reloaded using 63.5 gr of 7828 with the 140 sierra Gameking. This is a very accurate load out of this rifle and let me assure you that there is NOTHING in North America I wouldn't hunt using this combination. Is this the best calibre for some of our bigger northern game? No! but would I be comfortable using this gun on most game? Absolutely!

I know...I know... Alaskan brown bear....grizzly...even polar bear... YES I would use this combo on ANYTHING!

This may sound like a BS internet post but I assure you, I truely mean this! I have personally used this rifle for years and taken bears, moose, elk, deer and antelope with it.

I am running 67.6 grains of RL25, CCI250's and Nosler cases. I would probably drop back 5% from there and begin load work. I kinda got lucky as the AB and BT all shoot the same, with the same charge. I tried Retumbo, RL22 and IMR7828. RL22 looked good for accuracy, but not so much on the speed side. 7828 and Retumbo were decent, just not as consistent as RL25.
